Darryl Kirk, My Friend, Paul and myself have been coming to New Zealand from Perth Australia now for 4 years and have enjoyed Wayne's guiding every visit. New Zealand is not an easy place to fish when you come from a Trout desert like Western Australia and Wayne's help and guidance (keep that rod up Darryl) has been invaluable. Without his professional help and guidance both Paul and Myself may have given up with frustration but we both feel confident that if the trout are there we have a chance now. I would highly recommend Wayne to any visitor to the south Island and will continue to use Wayne in the years to come. Again thank you Wayne and Jill for the Lunch's.

Professor Paul G McMenamin I came across Wayne Grafton of “FlyFish Omarama” by chance some 4-5 years ago when after fishing unsuccessfully in the Twizel/Omarama region for around 4 days we went looking for a local guide. Having been a trout flyfisherman for most of my life in Scotland (but now severely deprived by living in the driest trout-deficient state in Australia, WA) I was under the impression that I would not need a guide. Just how wrong I was! After a few hours with Wayne on that first morning I realised I was actually a duffer, but had never had the insight to appreciate it. This came as a shock - but when one receives proper instruction from a man who knows his craft as well as Wayne the transition to appreciating one's own limitations was made somewhat easier. Good teachers can do that painlessly! In Omarama Wayne has positioned himself uniquely in terms of trout guiding in the sense that he can either take clients to virtually untouched sections of the Waitaki accessible only by his power boat or he can delve into his huge local knowledge to find other rivers and lakes in the area suitable for your interests and level of expertise. This can be invaluable in an area where wind can threaten the success of a day's fishing. Wayne is a very patient instructor and to teach people of such varying abilities day in day out is something that as a teacher I can closely identify with. Some of my now most precious memories in fishing have been formed in the company of Wayne . He has an excellent rapport with clients even in those awful moments when you feel you have let him down by getting the fly line wrapped around your leg or stuck in a tree at the critical moment when a 10lb brownie comes cruising towards you. With each repeated visit our friendship with Wayne and his lovely wife Jill has steadily grown. They have shown us remarkable hospitality and have gone well beyond the ‘call of duty' in looking after us and making us welcome. They are invaluable in making our stay in New Zealand as productive and enjoyable as possible. There is more to fishing than catching fish - having the companionship and benefit of someone like Wayne's wisdom and advice for a day whilst experiencing the best quality trout fishing in the world in the most beautiful place on the planet (and that's from a Scotsman!) has made every days fishing with Wayne a truly memorable experience. |
